What is your first U of A memory?
Sitting with my dad while he was in his Cree class when I was four. I was colouring in a colouring book while the TA was going through that week's content. I remember all of my dad’s classmates watching me and complimenting him on how cute I was.
What’s something your coworkers don’t know about you?
When I was 10 years old, I was one of three recipients and the only Indigenous recipient to win a full scholarship to go to the NASA U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama for six days. I got to go into space simulators that train astronauts, learn about robotics and how to program the robots we built for specific tasks and meet different people in their space-related field and learn about their professions.
What’s your favourite distraction?
I enjoy photography. Whenever I have the chance I am always taking pictures of the people in my life, the sunsets, landscapes and flowers. Since I am a Program Coordinator I am always taking pictures at our events.
If you were enrolling in one course, program or degree right now, what would it be?
I would enroll in an Indigenous law class, as I want to pursue a Bachelors in Law. I would eventually like to pursue a Masters in Environmental Law to help Indigenous communities across Canada with their environmentally-related issues from a law perspective.
You can invite anyone — alive or dead, real or fictional — to dinner. Who would it be?
Mary Simon, current Governor General of Canada. She is Inuk from Nunavik, Que. She is the first Indigenous person to hold office.
If you could see any live performance tomorrow, what would it be?
I would like to see Bear Grease at the Citadel Theatre.
What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Try everything, you won’t know you don’t like it until you try. Put yourself out there because there will always be people who will appreciate your individuality. Approach everyone you meet with kindness, and bring kindness into every aspect of your life and it will create a sense of happiness no matter how hard things may feel in the moment.
What’s one thing you can’t live without?
My beaded earrings. I wear them with every outfit, to every event and every day when I come in to work. I have them in almost every colour of the rainbow and even if I am wearing all black they are my pop of colour.
What three words describe your U of A experience?
Shocking, because I didn’t expect coming back to campus after all this time would feel so natural. Enlightening, learning about campus procedures and programming has been a learning experience. Welcoming, when I came to campus everyone greeted me with positivity and made me feel like I belong.
Do you have any upcoming projects or initiatives you are looking forward to at work?
We are currently in the process of planning for the 2026 I-STEAM Pathways program. Project applications are open until November 30, and we will open student applications on December 10, 2025.
