Nitohtamowin program (Indigenous leadership)

Nitohtamowin (ᓂᑐᐦᑕᒧᐃᐧᐣ), formerly known as the Indigenous Leadership Program, is a personal development program for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) undergraduate students at the University of Alberta. The program creates a safe and empowering space for Indigenous students to explore distinct processes of Indigenous leadership, build community, strengthen personal confidence, and inspire participation in leadership roles. Nitohtamowin translates to “the act of listening” in Plains Cree and emphasizes Indigenous Leadership through storytelling, oral tradition, and shared knowledge from Indigenous community leaders, knowledge keepers, and students. Certificates are awarded upon completion.
