Engineering Technical Services

Engineering Technical Services aids members of the Faculty of Engineering in the design of new experimental devices, manufacturing and assembly of parts and equipment, the repair and modification of existing laboratory equipment, and programming and materials testing. ETS supports research and student activities within the Faculty of Engineering, and can also support the wider U of A community dependent on availability.

How to Access

1. Gather information and documentation (e.g., sketches, drawings, models) to define your project and scope.
2. Submit a work request to either: consult with technical staff, obtain an estimate, submit a job, request training, or obtain course or lab support.
3. Once a job is submitted, a work requisition number is created for it. The necessary consultations and approvals must be obtained before a job enter the workqueue.
Alternative ways to get support include emailing enggtechservices@ualberta.ca or dropping by the front office in MECE 1-19.
Some spaces and equipment can be booked by student project groups and researchers who have completed the necessary orientations and training, by emailing enggtechservices@ualberta.ca.

What to Expect

Turnaround time varies, depending on the complexity and size of the job and the time of year. For quick jobs (less than 7 hours of labour), turnaround time may be as much as 2 to 3 weeks. Larger jobs will take longer to deliver. A lack of complete information often causes delays.

Special Conditions

Due to Engineering Technical Services' mandate to support research and course delivery, it does not provide support for personal projects. Consider the Elko Engineering Garage instead.
