Consult a physician about mental health support

The University Health Centre offers confidential physician support for students experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns. Physicians can help you understand your symptoms, discuss treatment options, explore medication if appropriate, and connect you with additional care. Through the Edmonton O-day'min Primary Care Network, students can also access a registered mental health social worker (RSW) at no cost with a physician referral. UHC physicians can further refer you to Counselling & Clinical Services, Wellness Supports, or community mental health providers, ensuring you receive the care that best fits your needs

Service Offerings

  • Mental health assessment and symptom evaluation
  • Guidance on treatment options, including medication where appropriate
  • Referral to a Registered Social Worker (RSW) through EOPCN
  • Referrals to Counselling & Clinical Services, Wellness Supports, or community providers
  • Follow-up appointments to monitor progress and adjust care
  • Collaborative care with other mental health professionals

How to Access

1. Book an appointment with a physician by phone 780-492-2612 or email hws@ualberta.ca.
2. Discuss mental health concerns during the visit.
3. A referral may be provided if needed (RSW, counselling, psychiatry, external supports).

May - August: Monday - Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

What to Expect

Confidential mental health consultations during UHC clinic hours, with clear assessment, treatment, and referrals. Timely scheduling varies by availability. Students are expected to attend appointments, share accurate information, and follow recommended care.

• Please note we cannot discuss your medical history over email or the phone
• Physician visits covered for all eligible students
• Mental Health Consultant is free with physician referral
