GSA Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chief Returning Officer (CRO), and Deputy Returning Officer (DRO): Call for Nominations

Opportunity to Serve: Four (4) Graduate Students - One in each position

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: Monday, May 29, 2017 at 12:00 PM (noon)

 

Nominations are now open for each of the four positions of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chief Returning Officer (CRO), and Deputy Returning Officer (DRO).

 

Nominations may be submitted in writing using the attached forms:

Submit the completed form to gsa.nomcomm@ualberta.ca by Monday, May 29, 2017 at 12:00 PM.

All nominations received will be circulated as submitted to GSA Council.



Overview of Positions*:

Speaker:

The Speaker presides over all meetings of GSA Council, and is a non-voting member of the GSA Board (GSAB).

Deputy Speaker:

Assists the Speaker as needed.

CRO:

The CRO oversees all GSA elections and referenda, is a non-voting member of the GSA Elections and Referenda Committee (GSA ERC), must be readily available in February and March of 2018 for the GSA General Election.

DRO:

Assists CRO as needed, is a non-voting member of GSA ERC, and must be readily available in February and March of 2018 for the GSA General Election.

Meetings:

Speaker:

  • GSA Council meetings are once a month on a Monday at 6:00 PM.
  • The pre-Council meeting takes place on that day at 4:00 PM.
  • GSA Board (GSAB) currently meets every Wednesday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (attendance is not mandatory).

 

Deputy Speaker:

  • GSA Council meetings are once a month on a Monday at 6:00 PM.
  • The pre-Council meeting takes place on that day at 4:00 PM.

 

CRO:

  • GSA Council meetings are once a month on a Monday at 6:00 PM.
  • May be invited to pre-Council as needed.
  • GSA ERC meetings will take place regularly between October and March to assist with the 2018 GSA General Election.

 

DRO:

  • GSA Council meetings are once a month on a Monday at 6:00 PM.
  • May be invited to pre-Council as needed.
  • GSA ERC meetings will take place regularly between October and March to assist with the 2018 GSA General Election.

 

 

Election Process:
Elections for these four (4) positions will occur at the June GSA Council meeting on Monday, June 19, 2017, and the nominees will be invited to deliver brief remarks at this meeting. If nominees are unable to attend and would like to address Council, alternate arrangements can be made. The results of the GSA Council paper ballot vote will be communicated to all GSA Council Members.
